Tina S. Alster MD
Professional
Biography: Dr. Alster received her B.S. and M.D. degrees from Duke University where she was graduated magna cum laude and elected to Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She was one of 10 students selected by her university for inclusion in the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She interned at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania followed by completion of a dermatology residency at Yale University and a laser surgery fellowship in Boston. Over the past several years, Dr. Alster has engaged in teaching numerous laser surgery courses at Georgetown and Harvard Universities. In addition, she has lectured widely in North America and abroad at universities and medical meetings, including the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Academy of Dermatology, Congress of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgical Dermatology, and American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Alster's academic work pertaining to the use of lasers in dermatology has been presented at multiple professional meetings and published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Her most referenced articles pertain to the laser treatment of scars and birthmarks. She is the author of over 100 manuscripts, including 2 medical textbooks and 1 book for the public on the subject of cutaneous laser surgery. Dr. Alster has received many honors and awards, among them the American Academy of Dermatology Research Award, Robert Wood Johnson Research Scholarship, Lange Student Leadership Award, and an American Medical Women's Association Merit Award. Active in a variety of professional societies, Dr. Alster is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. She is also a member of the American Medical Association, the D.C. Dermatologic Society, the Medical Society of D.C., and a founding member of the Annenberg Circle and Trustee of the Dermatology Foundation. Dr. Alster's
service to the community includes volunteer consultant work in dermatology
for the Whitman-Walker HIV Clinic in Washington, D.C. and advisory status
on a number of health-related foundations. Research
